Trekking in the Cordillera Real 11 days 10 nights

The system of the Cordillera Real is very unique; we start entering the mountain range in the Illampu-Ancohuma and ending in Lake Hankokhota

These mountains are the result of a disorderly and abrupt geographical feature, this chain of mountains resemble a "confusing labyrinth" where the mountains seem to change shape quickly because of the shadows, the position of the sun, and its height or distance from the point of observation and it is precisely this characteristic that induces us to continue, at the beginning of this program we will find ourselves crossing a good portion of the Cordillera Real de los Andes, passing through the valleys that run between the main peaks and crossing the passages high (apachetas). These spectacular steps present views of hundreds of peaks in the surrounding area

DESCRIPTION OF THE TREKKING PROGRAM

Day 1. At 08:00 a.m. departure from your hotel towards the Sorata Valley (altitude of 2,800 m.), A village located in a lush, temperate valley near the base of the west flank of the Illampu. (4 hours of travel, 147 kilometers) Accommodation in hostel and rest of the afternoon free.

Day 2. COCOYO.- On board a 4x4 vehicle we start our trip at 8:30 in the morning. Ascent to the Korhuasini pass (4,400 m.), Arriving at the town of Cocoyo, we begin the descent to the valley (3,900 m.). Approximately 3 hours by car. Camping in tents.

Day 3. CHAJOLPAYA.- We will leave our camping area and continue to conquer the Sarani pass (4,500 m.), With panoramic views of the snow-capped Chiarhoco if the weather is good. Camp at 3950 m 6 hours walk. Camping in tents.

Day 4. NEGRUNI.- Trek to Negruni pass (4,850 m.). Camp near the river at 3,900 m. 5 hours walk. Camping in tents.

Day 5. PUTU PUTUNI, We reach the pass of - Keakeani (4,450 m.). Descent to the valley. Camp near the town of Palca (3,900 m.). 5 hours walk. Camping in tents.

Day 6. HUARIHUARINI.- 3 hours ascent to the Hankolacaya pass (4,700 m.). 2 hours of descent to the valley of Huari Huarini. Camp at 4450 m of altitude, near the Hankolacaya village. Camping in tents.

Day 7. HANKOKHOTA.- 2 hours ascent to the Wita Llojeta pass (4,950 m.). Where we star to cross the mountain range from east to west. 3 hours of descent along the Hichukhota valley, in the afternoon we will arrive at Chojñakhota or Khotia (4,420 m.) Camping in tents.

At this point we get the replenishment of fresh food to continue our trip the next day.

Day 8. AJUANI.- Pass of 4.600m. Then we skirt the skirts of Chacapa, where you can see abandoned gold mines. Climb to Ajuani. Camp. 4700 m 6 hour trek Camping in tents.

Day 9. JURIKHOTA.- First step Janchallani 4.860m. and the Jurikhota pass of 4.900m. in total we will have 6h. of trek to reach our camp near Lake Jurikhota. 4.700m Camping in tents.

Day 10. CONDORIRI Paso de la Apacheta 5.100m. (The highest of the entire program). Arrival at Laguna Chiarcota (4.650 m.) After 6h. of trek. Camping in tents.

Day 11. CHACAPAMPA-LA PAZ

This day awaits us an 8 hour walk, avoiding two steps near 5,000m. Then descend to the valley of Liviñosa, descend to Chacapampa (Botijlaca) located in the valley of Zongo, well known for the existence of hydroelectric power plants that generate electricity. At this point our vehicle will be waiting for our arrival, and then continue with a 2-and-a-half-hour vehicle through the foothills of the Huayna Potosi, Charquini and Chacaltaya. Lodging in La Paz (not included)

The ground service includes:

  • All meals, during the days of the walk, according to the descriptive day to day: B: Breakfast / L: Lunch / D: Dinner
  • Breakfast: juice, tea, coffee, chocolate, milk, cereal, yogurt, bread or pancakes, jam, in the afternoon and while the cook prepares dinner: (tea, coffee and biscuits) hot water.
  • A mid-day Lunch cold food: sandwiches, fruit, chocolate, candies.
  • Dinner: Vegetable soup or creams and a main dish.
  • One night hotel accommodation at the village of "Sorata". (Double base accommodation).
  • Camping with four seasons tents, with space for three people (to be used by 2 clients)
  • Transportation La Paz - Sorata in private transport
  • Transportation Sorata at the beginning of the Trekking in private vehicles.
  • -Private return transportation, Mules and muleteers to take most of our mountain equipment: camping equipment, (clients should only carry their daily back pack)

 

The service does not include:

 

  • Meals in La Paz, and Sorata. 
  • Accommodation and transportation outside the usual itinerary
     
  • Personal equipment (sleeping bags, warm clothes, sunglasses, toiletry)
     
  • Single room supplement for hotels / Tents
     
  • Insurance Medical / Evacuation of any type.
     
  • Expenses as a result of delays and itinerary changes beyond the control of Pukina Travel, it is recommended to have travel insurance to cover unforeseen expenses.
  • Tips / gratuities
  • Alcoholic beverages or bottled beverages
  • Refunds in case of a decision of the clients, the walk must be finished before the planned according to the itinerary.
  • All expenses for early departure of the equipment (such as non-scheduled transfers, meals and hotel rooms).
