This is a high level trek, crossing the western part of the Cordillera Real mountain range, going through the heart of the region with spectacular views of the Huayna Potosí mountain.
Day 1. LA PAZ - TUNI CONDORIRI-CHIARKHOTA LAGOON
We leave La Paz at 9:00 a.m. After two and a half hours of driving we arrive at the village of Tuni, located at 4,300m, where our muleteers and mules will be waiting for us to help us with most of our equipment, after lunch we start the trekking in the mountain following a trail, after 3 and a half hours of trekking we arrive at the shores of the Chiarkhota lagoon 4,650m, where we set up our tents.
Day 2. TREKKING PICO AUSTRIA 5.300M - CHIARKHOTA LAGOON
From our campsite we'll leave the Condoriri valley towards the summit of Pico Austria. It will take us about 1½ to 2 hours to reach Pico Austria (making it a 3 hour climb in total), climbing steadily in switchbacks until we reach the ridge that will take us to the summit. Once at the summit, you'll be rewarded with stunning views of the peaks of the Condoriri Range, the left flank of Condoriri Peak with its glacier and, on a clear day, the Huayna Potosí Glacier. You'll find that the hike is not difficult and well worth the effort.
The descent back to our campsite shouldn't take more than 2 hours.
Day 3. CONDORIRI - MARIA LLOCO
Trek along the base of Cerro Mirador, with Huayna Potosi looming to the southwest. Today we will cross two passes at around 5,000m. Starting from the Chiarkhota lake at 4600m, the first one is at 5100m, then our trail goes down and then up again to reach the second pass at 4900m, from this point we will arrive at our campsite Maria Lloco 4.700m in the afternoon after 8 hours of trekking.
Day 4. MARIA LLOCO - LAGUNA MILLUNI.
After breakfast we leave for another pass of Milluni 5,000m from where you can see the abandoned minefields and then descend to the Janq'u Khota Lagoons and head towards, the Milluni Lagoon, a walk of 3 to 4 hours, then we arrive at the meeting point around 12:00pm where our transportation will be waiting for us, from this point we start the way back to La Paz 2.5 hours drive.
