The program takes place in the Rain Forest, in the Madidi National Park, approximately two and a half hours (2 ½) sailing from the city of Rurrenabaque and five minutes walking from the Tuichi River. The service is operated by a leading Community-Based Tourist Company in the Amazon region of Bolivia, characterized by its quality, personalized, efficient and professional service. Below we describe one of the programs that can be adapted according to the number of days our client has available and their personal interests.
Day 1: Rurrenabaque – Madidi National Park
Departure from Mashaquipe office in Rurrenabaque at 08:30am – 3 hour boat trip with spectacular view of Beni and Tuichi rivers to enter Madidi National Park – visit to Villa Alcira, original comunity to learn about their way of life and experience sugarcane pressing
Arrival at “Mashaquipe” Ecolodge – welcome drink of natural local fruit juice – accommodation in lodges
Lunch – local foods and traditional dishes – short rest
Walk along “Dry Creek” Trail – view of a variety of plants to learn about their many uses for medicines, crafts and construction materials – view of some species of monkeys, peccaries, birds and many insects (all subject to season availability)
Dinner – rest for the night
Day 2: Visit of Parabas – Sport fishing
06:30 Breakfast – with typical local beverages, fruits and pastries
07:00 3 hour walk to “Caquiahuara macaw Cliff” – view of parabas in natural nesting habitat from a high lookout, aswell as large native trees and plants to learn about their many uses for medicines, crafts and construction materials
09:30 Return walk to Tuichi River to experience building a log raft “Callapo”: rustic transportation of the indigenous people of the Amazon, and travel downriver on raft back to “Mashaquipe” Lodge.
12:30 Lunch – local foods and traditional dishes – short rest
14:30 Optional activities during the afternoon: sport fishing, local handicraft making
19:30 Dinner and rest for the night
Day 3: Transfer to Santa Rosa – swim with pink dolphins
06:30 Breakfast – with typical local beverages, fruits and pastries
07:00 1 ½ hour boat trip return to Rurrenabaque
09:00 Car trip to Santa Rosa – great probability of seeing sloths, anteaters, birds, and other local animals
11:30 15-minute boat trip to “Las Tortugas” Ecolodge – accomodation in lodges
12:30 Lunch – local foods and traditional dishes – short rest
14:30 Boat trip along Yacuma river – view of caiman, capybara, turtles, many bird species and others. Probability of swimming with pink river dolphin (season availability)
19:30 Dinner at lodge – rest for the night
Day 4: Sailing in the Yacuma River and back to Rurrenabaque
05:30 Early rise to appreciate impressive sunrise and listen to howler monkeys and birds herald the awakening of the pampas
07:30 Breakfast
08:30 Boat trip along Yacuma river to swamps to look for anacondas.
12:30 Lunch
13:30 Return to Rurrenabaque – 3 hour car drive
Price per person: 340usd base 2 clients
Children under 12 pay half price (50%) and children under 4 pay 25% of fees
