Pristine lakes, isolated hamlets, and snowcapped mountains invites us to discover one of the most beautiful areas in the Cordillera Real mountain range, the Illampu Mt. (6500m) will watch over us on our journey.
Day 1: Transportation La Paz-Sorata-Tuxa Wira walking towards Laguna Chillata
Departure from La Paz in private transportation towards the Sorata valley (2800m) located at the foot of Mt. Illampu. On the way there we will observe the gentle giants in the Cordillera Real mountain range. (4 hours driving) Lunch.
From Sorata we continue towards Tuxa Wira and then to Chillata, after 3 hours we arrive to our camping area. We’ll set up camp at the iconic Muela del Diablo (Devil’s Tooth), a large 150m tall rock formation eroded into the shape of a molar. Local legend relates that it was formed when a demon spit out its tooth upon being hit by an archangel during a heavenly battle.

Day 2: Trek to Chilata lake – Laguna Glaciar - Chillata
After a good breakfast, we start trekking towards the “Laguna Glaciar”, (glacier lagoon) at 5100m. It will take us around 3 and a half hour on foot. Up through abandoned mines, spectacular views of the mountains and high valleys of the area and thus reach the glacier lagoon, breathtaking mountain scenery with a huge glacier the mountain, we will enjoy the magnificent views all around us. After a while in this tranquil place, we start the return by the same route to our camping area by the shores of the Chillata lagoon.
Day 3: Chilata – Sorata – La Paz
After breakfast we begin to descend to the village of Sorata, with the help of the mules and then take transport back to La Paz to Sorata late in the afternoon.
